One of the most notable remains of this time is Newport Arch, standing astride Ermine Street, through which traffic still passes - the only Roman arch which still has traffic passing through it!

In 1068 the Normans arrived, with William the Conqueror bringing about the Norman Conquest. At the time Lincoln was one of the four largest towns in the whole of England. 166 homes were destroyed to make way for Lincoln Castle. cathedralweb design | low cost web design Lincoln | Low caost web design Lincolnshire | Low cost web design UK | Low cost web design England | Graphic design Lincoln | Photo restoration | Image eddittingFour years later in 1072, further homes made way for Lincoln Cathedral, which is the home of the mischievous Lincoln Imp. Lincoln Cathedral is without doubt one of the finest examples of gothic architecture in the world at the moment. The Lincoln Imp is a stone carving which is much featured in local folklore. There are several stories surrounding how the Lincoln Imp got to be where he is today. The most generally told one tells of Satan sending an Imp down to Lincoln Cathedral to cause some trouble. The Imp was trying his best to destroy the Angel Choir in the Cathedral, when all of a sudden an angel appeared and the Imp jumped onto a pillar and started throwing rocks at the angel. All of a sudden the angel turned the Imp to stone, and he still remains on that pillar today!

Lincoln boasts many other attractions. cathedralweb design | low cost web design Lincoln | Low caost web design Lincolnshire | Low cost web design UK | Low cost web design England | Graphic design Lincoln | Photo restoration | Image eddittingUphill, these include The Lawn Visitor Centre, Usher Gallery, Bishop's Palace, Museum of Lincolnshire Life, The Collection and Jews House. Downhill you will find the recently redeveloped Brayford Waterfront, and the Brayford Pool with the University of Lincoln, which opened in 1996, standing next to it.

Just outside of Lincoln, you will find RAF Scampton, which is home to the famous Red Arrows air display team. The Red Arrows were formed in 1965 and have completed over 4,000 air displays in 53 different countries. To commemorate the RAF's 90th birthday on 1st April, 2008, the Red Arrows performed a fly past in London with millions of people lining the flight route to watch them.

In 2005, part of the movie 'The De Vinci Code' was filmed at Lincoln Cathedral. This brought Tom Hanks, Sir Ian McKellen, Jean Reno, Audrey Tautou and Ron Howard to the city for the filming.cathedralweb design | low cost web design Lincoln | Low caost web design Lincolnshire | Low cost web design UK | Low cost web design England | Graphic design Lincoln | Photo restoration | Image edditting

Sincil Bank is the home of Football League team Lincoln City. Their honours include winning the fourth division title in 1976, breaking many records on the way, and also winning promotion back to the Football League at the first attempt in 1988, after Lincoln became the first team to be relegated out of the Football League under new rules introduced.

Then England striker Alan Shearer made his debut for Newcastle United at Sincil Bank against Lincoln City in a friendly in front of a sellout crowd on August 9th, 1996. At the time Shearer had just signed for Newcastle for a world record transfer fee of £15 cathedralweb design | low cost web design Lincoln | Low caost web design Lincolnshire | Low cost web design UK | Low cost web design England | Graphic design Lincoln | Photo restoration | Image eddittingmillion!
